๐Ÿค Slow Cooker Pulled Pork Tenderloin

I have summarised everything that you will come to know and love (LOVE โค) about the recipe in the points below:

    • Easy.
    • Versatile: pulled pork on a hawaiian roll and lunch is sorted! Or use the meat simply paired with potato salad or whichever combination takes your fancy.
    • Flavor packed: yet only minimal effort is needed.
    • Family friendly: all ages can enjoy this juicy pork! There is no 'too hot' or 'too spicy' to it.
    • Freezer friendly: this pork freezes and reheats very well. So it is a great choice if you want to meal prep it for convenience down the track.

    ๐Ÿฅ— Ingredients

The photo below is to show you everything you need to make the recipe. Please refer to the printable recipe card for specific ingredient measurements as well as detailed instructions.

As you can see the recipe calls for:

    • Salt.
    • Mustard powder.
    • Garlic powder.
    • Oregano.
    • Black pepper.
    • Onion powder.
    • Paprika.
    • Worcestershire sauce.
    • BBQ sauce.
    • Tomato sauce.
    • Chicken stock: also known as chicken broth. This is one of the 4 ingredients we use to create the sauce. We only use a splash of broth as we are aiming for meat and sauce not so much meat in soup for the texture.
    • Pork tenderloin: which is also known as pork fillet. We want to use 2 tenderloins as they are quiet small.

    ๐Ÿ˜‰ Variations

Here are my sub ins and outs that you might be thinking about as you read the post and I will tell you if I think they will work or why they won't:

    • BBQ flavor: if you prefer barbecue sauce to ketchup then you can simply use 2 portions of the barbecue flavor and omit the tomato sauce. You can use your favorite bbq sauce or a homemade bbq sauce will work also.
    • Brown sugar: you can add a tablespoon of brown sugar to the spice rub if you wish to.
    • Pork shoulder: if you want to pull a different cut of pork then you might like to try the Slow Cooker Coke Pulled Pork which uses pork shoulder.
    • Pork tenderloin: or if pork tenderloin is your favorite cut and you want to do more with it try the Slow Cooker Stuffed Pork Tenderloin.

๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€๐Ÿณ How to Make Slow Cooker Pulled Pork Tenderloin

To start with we want to gather all of the ingredients to make the spice mixture. You will need a small bowl and fork or thin spatula to stir these together.

Instructions to make pulled pork tenderloin with text labels on top.

    ๐Ÿณ Instructions

    • Gather the spice rub ingredients (Photo 1)
    • Combine (Photo 2)
    • Remove the silver skin (Photo 3)
    • Coat in spice mix (Photo 4)

Add the mustard powder, garlic powder, onion, powder, paprika, dried oregano, salt and pepper to a small bowl and stir until consistently combined with no lumps. Then set aside.

Next working 1 fillet at a time place the pork in the middle of a clean, dry cutting board. Use a sharp knife and cut and pull the sliver skin from the pork. Repeat until it is all removed and discard. Then do the same for the 2nd fillet.

Next place both fillets on the chopping board and cover with the spice rub. Use your fingers and hands to massage this in so that all sides are covered.

Steps to make pulled pork in the slow cooker with text labels on top.
Step by step 5 to 8
    • Add the sauce ingredients (Photo 5)
    • Add the seasoned pork (Photo 6)
    • Cook then remove (Photo 7)
    • Pull with 2 forks (Photo 8)

Next we add the sauce ingredients to the crockpot. Start by liberally spraying the insert with cooking oil. Then pour in the chicken stock, barbecue sauce, tomato sauce and Worcestershire sauce. Stir these to combine.

When ready place the 2 seasoned pork tenderloins into the slow cooker. You may need to fold them a little to fit (see photos above). Then set the timer for 4 hours on high or 8 hours or low.

Put the lid on and let the pork cook. If using high heat, remove the lid and transfer the pork to a cutting board at the 3 hour mark. If using low heat do this at the 6 hour mark.

Next use 2 forks and pull the meat.

    Step 9
    • Add back and cook (Photo 9)

Once the meat is fully shredded, transfer it back into the slow cooker. Then stir it to combine with the sauce. Let it cook in the sauce for a further 30 minutes to an hour for high heat or 1 to 2 hours for low heat.

    ๐Ÿ’ก Tasty Tips

Here are my top tips and tricks that I want to share with you so that you master the recipe from the get go:

    • Cooking oil: I recommend spraying the slow cooker insert with cooking oil. This ensures both an easy clean up as well as nothing sticking and potentially burning.
    • Silver skin: whilst it takes a couple of minutes to remove the silver skin from the tenderloin, it is a worthwhile process. Much like when making ribs and removing the membrane, it ensures tender meat without any chewy hard bits in the mix.
    • Shredded meat: you will notice when you remove the pork from the slow cooker before pulling it that the outside is brown. Then when you pull it the meat will still be quiet white. This is why we then take that meat and add it back to the sauce to allow the flavor to be absorbed throughout.
    • Do you love slow cooking? Then you might like to try the French Onion Meatballs, Devilled Sausages, Chicken And Corn Soup, Slow Cooker Dry Rub Ribs, Savoury Mince, Chicken Barley Soup or the Chicken Drumsticks And Potatoes.

    ๐Ÿฝ Serving Suggestions

When it comes to serving your pulled pork almost anything you think of will work! Use it as for pork sandwiches, on top of a baked potato, as a burger filling, pizza topping, sandwich filler, in tacos, nachos or when making Pulled Pork Enchiladas.

Serve it with the Tortilla Garlic Bread, the Cherry Tomato Caprese Salad or the Garlic Butter Potatoes.

Or if you want to do more of a potato bake type combo try the Potato And Sweet Potato Bake. Creamy Garlic Potatoes, Potato And Onion Bake or the Potato And Broccoli Bake.

You will be suprised how many different combinations will work with the pork and how the flavor pairing blends so well in different ways.

The photo below is another suggestion as we simply add coleslaw and the shredded pork to a hamburger bun and dinner is done!

    ๐Ÿ‘ How to Guide

    How to Store

Let the pork meat fully cool. Once it has transfer it to a sealed, air tight container and place in the fridge. Heat before eating and consume within 3-4 days.

    How to Freeze

Or portion the meat into small zip lock bags. Push to remove the air then push down and seal. Place the meat into the freezer where it can be kept for up to 3 months.

    How to Reheat

For reffridgerated leftovers we can transfer to a bowl, cover with cling wrap and reheat on high in the microwave. They will need 2-3 minutes to heat through.

For frozen meat, transfer it to the fridge and let it thaw. Then reheat following the step above giving it an extra minute or so to warm through.

    Notes

    • Note 1 - Paprika: you can use either smoked paprika or ground paprika. I find ground paprika to be more intense and smoked paprika to be more fragrant.ย
    • Note 2 - Pork tenderloin: also known as pork fillets. These are long thin, round cuts of meat with a silver skin. They are known for being a lighter cut with less fat compared to other cuts like pork shoulder or pork butt. We do remove the skin to keep the meat tender.ย
    • Note 3 - Tomato sauce: if you prefer barbecue sauce over tomato sauce then you can simply double the barbecue sauce (ie use โ…“ cup twice) and omit the tomato sauce.ย
