🥗 Ingredients
The photo below is to show you everything you need to make the pork dumpling noodle soup recipe. Please refer to the printable recipe card for specific ingredient measurements as well as detailed instructions.
As you can see the recipe calls for:
- Chilli oil: this is optional! As it is hot, quite hot 😂😂. It is a great way to garnish the final noodle bowls for serving.
- Soy sauce: the primary liquid for the soup is chicken stock or chicken broth. We then use both soy sauce and sesame oil as a means to add a depth of flavor to the stock.
- Sesame oil: fragrant and unique this oil is a delightful ingredient to use across a wide variety of recipes. We only need a small amount of this and it helps to create depth of flavor resulting in an aromatic broth.
- Mushrooms: I like to use Swiss brown mushrooms for this recipe. They have a great colour and robust chewy texture. All we need to do is slice them and add them to the hot pot.
- Pak choy: this is the leafy green Asian vegetable that you see above. We do cut a small amount off the base and then use both the leaves and the stems of the vegetable.
- Frozen dumplings: the key ingredient in the wonton noodle soup recipe! These can be any flavor that you like. The dumplings that you see in the photo above are frozen pork dumplings.
- Noodles: instant noodles, also known as ramen noodles without the seasoning are easy and quick!
- Green onions: we use some of the firmer white and green parts in the soup and then slice the top darker green parts to top the soup with. You can discard the roots and top tips.
- Chicken stock: also known as chicken broth. This is the main liquid we need for the soup base.
Tasty Tip: I like to provide you with a number of substitutions and variations giving you an array of options when making my recipes. If in doubt of any of the above ingredients, or wanting alternatives, read this section (further below) before jumping into the instructions on how to make the recipe which are coming next 😉👌.
🍳 Instructions
Here are the step by step instructions to make the dumpling soup recipe. We start by heating the chicken stock in a medium sauce pan on the stove top.
- Add the chicken stock to the sauce pan (Photo 1)
- Then add the soy sauce (Photo 2)
- Add the sesame oil and bring the liquids to the boil (Photo 3)
- Then add the frozen dumplings (Photo 4)
👩🍳 How to Make Dumpling Noodle Soup
To make the dumpling noodle soup, we start by adding the liquids to the sauce pan. Pour in the chicken stock then add both the soy sauce and sesame oil. Once done, give this combination a stir to mix it together.
Ensure the temperature is on high heat and bring the liquids to the boil (this will take 6-8 minutes). Once the broth is boiling add the frozen dumplings.
- Slice the pak choy (Photo 5)
- Then slice the mushrooms (Photo 6)
- Slice the green onions (Photo 7)
- Add the noodles (Photo 8)
The dumplings need to cook for 5 minutes to start with and you can use this time to prepare the vegetables like you see in the photos above.
Simply slice the pak choy (I like to remove the stem), cut the mushrooms and slice the green onions.
Then add the noodles to the sauce pan, followed by the vegetables.
- Cook the noodles and vegetables for 2 minutes (Photo 9)
Let the noodles and vegetables cook for a further 2 minutes, giving them a stir as they cook. You can use this time to slice some of the green onions (green bits) to use as garnish.
- Slice green onions for garnish (Photo 10)
Then once the timer is up, turn the heat off, grab some bowls and get ready to portion and serve your soup!
🍽 Serving Suggestions
When it comes to serving your soup, you might like to add some sriracha sauce (hot chilli sauce), crispy chilli oil or hot chili oil. Both of these add a nice finishing touch to the soup and that extra touch of flavor.
👍 How to Guide
How to Store, Freeze and Reheat
Dumplings that have been cooked do not reheat very well. This is because in liquid they continue to expand and can get quite bloated.
For that reason and to have a fresh, hearty soup that tastes delicious, it is not recommend to store leftovers, freeze or reheat this soup.
😉 Substitutions and Variations
Here are my sub ins and outs that you might be thinking about as you read the post and I will tell you if I think they will work or why they won't:
- You can use vegetable broth in place of the chicken stock if you wish too.
- In place of store bought prepared stock, you can use powdered stock and add this to water.
- Regarding the point above, I recommend powered stock for this recipe over stock cubes for its ability to dissolve quickly and thoroughly in the boiling water.
- You can use instant noodles (no seasoning packet), ramen noodles, egg noodles or your favorite noodles. Some types will take longer to cook than others. So if your noodle package indicates a long cook time, cook these in a separate pot, then drain them and add them in. This will ensure that you don't overcook the rest of the soup.
- Add some sliced fresh chilli if you want some spicy flavors in the mix.
- Sesame seeds sprinkled over the top work for an alternate garnish to the spring onions.
- You can add a boiled egg to the dumpling noodle soup if you wish to when serving it.
💡 Tasty Tips
Here are my top tips and tricks that I want to share with you so that you master the recipe from the get go:
- After you have added both the soy sauce and sesame oil to the chicken broth, give the liquids a stir to get them mixing together nicely.
- When you add the dumplings to the chicken stock, the liquid will bubble and splash (be a bit careful to not get hot liquid on you). This is because the dumplings are frozen and the stocking is boiling hot.
- Serve the soup as soon as you have portioned it into the serving bowl.
- Want an appetizer? Try the Air Fryer Spring Rolls 😄👍.
- Looking for dessert? Try the Microwave Chocolate Self Saucing Pudding or the Apple Crumble Tartlets.

Notes
- Note 1 - Chicken stock: also known as chicken broth. This is the main liquid we need for the soup. You can use store bought chicken stock or use a powder to make your own. The powder is recommended over the stock cubes for its ability to dissolve rapidly and consistently in the liquid.
- Note 2 - Soy sauce: the primary liquid for the soup is chicken stock or chicken broth. We then use both soy sauce and sesame oil as a means to add a depth of flavor to the stock. It is regular, not dark soy sauce that we need .
- Note 3 : Sesame oil: aromatic and fragrant, this oil is a delightful ingredient to use across a wide variety of recipes. We only need a small amount of this and it does go a long way!
- Note 4 - Frozen dumplings: these can be any flavor that you like. The dumplings that you see in the photo above are frozen pork and chive flavor.
- Note 5 - Pak choy: this is the leafy green Asian vegetable that you see above. We do cut a small amount off the base and then use both the leaves and the stems of the vegetable.
- Note 6 - Mushrooms: I like to use Swiss brown mushrooms for this recipe. They have a great colour and robust chewy texture. All we need to do is slice them and add them to the hot pot.
- Note 7 - Green onions: we use some of the firmer white and green parts in the soup and then slice the top darker green parts to top the soup with. You can discard the roots and top tips.
- Note 8 - Noodles: instant noodles, also known as ramen noodles without the seasoning are easy and quick!
- Note 9 - Chilli oil: this is optional! As it is hot, quite hot 😂😂. It is a great way to garnish the final noodle bowls for serving.
