    Easy Homemade Pita Chips are perfect for dipping, dunking and snacking! Oven Baked, this simple easy pita chips recipe is fuss free entertaining!  Serve with olive tapenade, pesto or your favorite dip!

    For dips and spreads we need a chip, cracker or toast for dunking and topping!  Olive Tapenade recipes, herb based dips like our Rocket and Cashew Pesto and our Easy Crostini make chip and snack time a breeze!

    Oven Baked Pita Chips make the perfect appetizer as they are quick, easy and healthy!

    For the perfect pairing try these chips with our Labneh Dip (homemade yoghurt cheese as seen in the photos in this post) or Basil and Cashew Pesto. Feeature them as the start of the show on the Dip Platter.

    How do you make pita chips from scratch?

    Making pita chips from scratch is very easy! 

    We use wholewheat pita bread, salt and a little spray oil. They are oven baked till crispy, golden and crunchy and work with just about anything!

    Are Pita Chips Healthy?

    Pita Chips are known as a healthy alternative to potato chips. 

    They are a great choice for dipping with delicious dips, vegetable sticks and pates! 

    Are pita chips baked or fried?

    This recipe is for oven baked pita chips. 

    We bake them until they are so crispy that you don't need to fry them. 

    The wholewheat pita bread toasts perfectly in the oven and the chips have a crunchy texture like regular potato chips. 

    What can I do with pita chips?

    As you can see, we have:

    • wholewheat pita bread (or white)
    • salt
    • spray oil

    The spray oil is a super fast way to cover each chip with cooking oil! 

    How to make Homemade Pita Chips

    The photos below are step by step showing you how to make these pita chips:

    1. Cut pita bread into chip triangles (Photo 1)
    2. Spread out on baking tray (Photo 2)
    3. Spray with oil (Photo 3)
    4. Sprinkle with salt (Photo 4)

    The biggest difference you will notice in before baking and after baking your pita chips is that they turn a lovely golden brown!

    The chips get baked in a moderate oven for up to 10 mins. Watch for the colour change and turn off the oven. They will continue to toast for a minute or so.

    If triangle chips with salt don't tick all of your boxes, then here is a 2nd style of chip shapes for you with dried herbs to season:

    For the 2nd style, we make long chips that are cut into strips. 

    Here I have used thyme and caraway for the herbs as well as salt.

    Ingredients

    Easy Homemade Pita Chips

    • 6 wholemeal pita bread
    • salt to taste
    • cooking spray as desired

    Instructions

    Easy Homemade Pita Chips

    • Preheat your oven to 180°C / 350-375°F / Gas Mark 4-5
    • Use a knife and cutting board to cut your wholemeal pita bread in half, then quarters, then thirds
    • Line a baking tray with grease proof paper
    • Spread pita bread triangles out flat on the baking paper, use the oil spray from a slight distance away till each chip is covered. Season with a sprinkle of salt.
    • Place baking tray in oven and bake for up to 10 minutes. Watch for the pita chips to turn a light golden brown.
    • Serve with dip and olives.

      I started with thicker pita bread and I think it tasted even better after the chips were baked. I didn't even use oil and just put the triangles right on the oven rack. I baked for 8 minutes. Thank you!
