    ๐Ÿค Butter Pecan Blondies

I have summarised everything that you will come to know and love (LOVE โค) about the recipe in the points below:

    • Simple ingredients: we need 6 basic ingredients for the blondie batter then we add some chopped pecans and chocolate chips. You will find each of these easy to get your hands on and you are likely to have the basics to start with (pantry staples with a long shelf life).
    • One bowl: this easy recipe needs only 1 bowl.
    • No electric mixer: simply stir with a spatula.
    • Versatile: take them to a bake sale, warm them for dessert. Pop them in the lunch box.

    ๐Ÿฅ— Butter Pecan Blondies Ingredients

The photo below is to show you everything you need to make the butter pecan blondie recipe. Please refer to the printable recipe card for specific ingredient measurements as well as detailed instructions.

As you can see the recipe calls for:

    • Vanilla: vanilla extract or vanilla essence will work. Use the one that suits your budget.
    • Eggs: free range.
    • Butter: unsalted butter is recommended.
    • White sugar: the sugar and plain flour are the key dry ingredients to make the batter.
    • Brown sugar.
    • Pecans.
    • Chocolate chips.
    • Plain flour: plain flour, also known as all purpose flour, no need to sift.

    ๐Ÿ Maple Butter Ingredients

Ingredients to make butter pecan blondies with text labels on top.
    • Maple syrup.
    • Butter.
    • White sugar.

    ๐Ÿ˜‰ Substitutions

Here are my sub ins and outs that you might be thinking about as you read the post and I will tell you if I think they will work or why they won't:

    • Chocolate: I like to use dark chocolate chips but other options are using white chocolate chips or milk chocolate chips (equivalent amount).
    • Maple butter: the maple butter topping is optional. The blondies still taste amazing even if you want to leave this off.
    • Sugar topping: re the point above, I use white sugar for the top but you could also use brown sugar. You can also add a touch of cinnamon if you wish too (see the Cinnamon Sugar Blondies for reference). Or you can add the maple butter leave the sugar sprinkle off.

๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€๐Ÿณ How to Make Butter Pecan Blondies

To make the butter pecan blondies we start by lining a baking dish with 2 sheets of overlapping parchment paper.

Step by step instructions 1 to 4

    ๐Ÿณ Easy to follow instructions

    • Line the baking tray (Photo 1)
    • Roughly chop the pecans (Photo 2)
    • Add the sugars to a large bowl (Photo 3)
    • Pour in the melted butter (Photo 4)

Next use a sharp knife and cutting board to roughly chop the pecans into pieces. Once done add both the brown sugar and white sugar to a large mixing bowl.

Then add the butter to a heatproof container and use the microwave to melt it in 30 second increments (high heat).

Once the butter is melted, pour into the bowl with the sugar and stir to combine.

Next add the chopped pecans and chocolate chips to the batter and stir until folded in.

Then transfer the combined batter into the prepared baking dish. Use a spatula to push it out across the base of the pan so that it is in one relatively even layer.

Next we make the maple butter topping. Add the butter to a heatproof jug and melt in the microwave (30 - 45 seconds). Then pour the maple syrup into the melted butter and stir to combine.

    • Add the maple syrup (Photo 13)
    • Stir to combine (Photo 14)
    • Drizzle with butter (Photo 15)
    • Sprinkle with sugar (Photo 16)

Pour the combined maple butter over the top of the blondies like you see in the photos above. Then once done sprinkle the sugar across the top.

Process shots to make blondies with text labels on top.
Step by step instructions 17 to 20
    • Oven bake (Photo 17)
    • Cool in baking dish (Photo 18)
    • Cool out of the baking dish (Photo 19)
    • Slice into pieces (Photo 20)

Next place the baking dish into the oven (middle shelf) and bake the blondies for 30-35 minutes.

When the cook time is up, use oven mitts to remove the baking dish and set it onto a heatproof surface.

Let the blondies cool in the pan for at least 20 minutes. Then use the overhanging paper to lift them up and out of the pan and place them onto a wire cooling rack.

Now let them cool for a further 20 minutes (or overnight). Then remove the baking paper and slice the blondies into pieces.

    ๐Ÿฝ Serving Suggestions

Serving your blondies can be as easy as picking up a slice and taking a bite. They are fudgy, buttery and delicious.

You can make them a bit more fancy with a scoop of ice cream and sprinkle some extra chopped pecans over the top if you wish to.

Two blondies with chocolate and pecans stacked on a white plate.

    ๐Ÿ‘ How to Guide

    How To Store

Once the blondies have cooled and you have sliced them into pieces, transfer them to a sealed, airtight container. These can be kept in the fridge for 5-7 days and consumed hot or cold.

    How to Freeze

To freeze the blondies allow them to cool then individually wrap them with plastic wrap. These portions can then be stacked in the freezer for up to 3 months.

    How To Reheat

Place a piece of the blondies into a bowl and reheat on high in the microwave. They will only need about 30 seconds to warm up. Due to the butter content in the recipe they will melt if reheated for too long.

    ๐Ÿ’ก Tasty Tips

Here are my top tips and tricks that I want to share with you so that you master the recipe from the get go:

    • Baking dish: I like to use a square baking dish for this recipe. It means that you can cut the large square into 4 and those 4 into 4 so that you get 16 even size pieces. You can use a rectangular pan though if you don't have a square one.
    • Baking paper: when lining the baking dish I give it a light coating with cooking spray then lay 2 overlapping pieces of parchment paper into the base. The oil helps the paper to stick so it won't move around when you are adding the wet batter to the dish.
    • Overhang: we also want to have an overhang on each side of the baking dish. The reason for this is so that we can use the overhang to lift the blondies up and out of the dish after they have cooled.
    • Technique: I like to use a long handled rubber spatula when making blondies. It is the right length to be able to really mix the batter well and is heatproof so you can use it to stir the melted butter. If you don't have one a wooden spoon will also work well.
    • Cool: it is really important to let the blondies cool. To do this leave them in the pan once they have cooked (at least 20 minutes), then also cool them for 20 minutes on a wire rack. If you have time you can cool them for longer including leaving them in the fridge overnight to cool and then cut them the next day.

    ๐Ÿค“ Butter Pecan Blondies FAQ's

Should you refrigerate blondies after baking?

Yes, refrigerating blondies after baking is a good idea. This can help to cool them which makes them set and stop them falling apart.

Do I have to cool blondies before slicing them?

Yes. Cooling the blondies before slicing them is essential to making sure they stay together when sliced.

Should you sieve flour for blondies?

One of the great things about blondies is that you don't need to sieve the flour. Simply pour it into the bowl and stir until it is consistently combined.
