🤍 Recipe Highlights
Is there anything better than pizza?
Nope, I don't think so either!
However, sometimes there is an 'ugh' after feeling with pizza when you eat too much of it, the base is too thick or just cause its pizza!
Easy with a quick cook time, this Air Fryer Portobello Mushroom Pizza takes your favourite pizza ingredients, stuffs them into a large mushroom and still has the house smelling like pizza!
🥗 Ingredients
The ingredients you need are shown in the photo below, they are all simple and can be found at the local shop (or you may already have!)
As you can see, the recipe calls for:
- Portobello mushrooms (large size)
- pizza sauce
- pepperoni
- dried oregano
- capsicum (bell pepper)
- black olives (sliced)
- cheese
Grab the largest mushrooms you can find so you can top them just like you would a normal pizza!
There is no better pairing of pizza toppings than pepperoni with oregano, they are a match made in heaven!
👩🍳 How to Cook Air Fryer Portobello Mushrooms Pizzas
To cook Portobello Mushroom Pizza, we start by prepping the mushrooms.
All we need to do is cut off the stem (keep the gills) and then cook them for 1-2 mins before adding the pizza toppings.
🍳 Instructions
Here are the step by step instructions to make our pizzas.
As you can see in the photos below, the whole recipe involves quick, easy steps!
- Use a knife and chopping board to remove the stems (Photo 1)
- Cook mushrooms for 1-2 mins cap side up (Photo 2)
- Add pizza sauce layer (Photo 3)
- Top with pepperoni and dried oregano (Photo 4)
If you want to place the pizzas into the Air Fryer at this point and cook for 1-2 mins, you can as this will crisp up the pepperoni.
- Sprinkle cheese on top of the oregano (Photo 5)
- Then add capsicum pieces (Photo 6)
- Add sliced black olives (Photo 7)
- Cook for 8-10 mins or until cheese is melted (Photo 8)
Some people have had experiences with their Air Fryer where the cheese 'flys off' a recipe as it is cooking (eg cheese on toast).
To avoid this issue, layer the cheese under the capsicum and olives.
This will weigh it down so that it stays on the pizza!

Funny story about the pic above. I dropped one of the mushrooms back into the Air Fryer basket when I when to remove them (opps, they were hot! Use a flat utensil and this won't happen to you!!)
But that is the reason why the topping looks all squishy!
