Burrata is a cheese that has a creamy center.
Most commonly known as resembling mozzarella, this cheese has a very mild, soft texture.
This makes it the perfect cheese to pair with simple ingredients creating a unique and original salad.

Burrata can be used in a number of recipes due to its versatile taste and appearance.

Ingredients
The ingredients for this recipe are simple and easy to find at the local shops. They are set out in the photo below so you can see exactly what you need:
As you can see, we have:
- medley tomatoes
- cherry tomatoes
- grape tomatoes
- basil leaves
- burrata (can use mozzarella) same, same kindof!
- capers
- salt and pepper
- olive oil
- red wine vinegar
- rye bread (optional shown in photos)
If you want to make the salad into a complete meal, toast some wholemeal or rye bread and serve with the salad to bulk it up!
How to make tomato burrata salad
The photos below are the easy step by step instructions you need to bring this dish together:
- use a knife to prep the tomatoes (Photo 1)
- pull the leaves from the basil stems (Photo 2)
You can tear the basil leaves into pieces with kitchen scissors or your fingers!
The tomatoes only need to be cut in halves.
- starting plating the salad with the tomatoes, burrata and toast (if using) (Photo 3)
- season with salt and pepper (Photo 4)
- drizzle with olive oil (Photo 5)
- add basil leaves to salad (Photo 6)
- sprinkle the capers around the plate (Photo 8
- dress with red wine vinegar (Photo 8)
To avoid having a soggy salad, dress the salad only moments before serving!

Burrata Salad
Equipment
- Chopping board

Ingredients
- 400 grams medley tomatoes cute in half, Note 1
- 100 grams cherry tomatoes cut in half, see Note 1
- 100 grams orange grape tomatoes cut in half, see Note 1
- ½ bunch basil leaves
- 1 tablespoon capers drained, not rinsed
- 1 tablespoon red wine vinegar
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon pepper
Instructions
- Use a knife and chopping board to slice the tomatoes in halves
- Pull basil leaves from stems and discard (stems)
- Mix your tomatoes together to get an even spread of colour, season with salt, pepper and olive oil
- Add burrata, basil and capers to the salad
- Drizzle with red wine vinegar to serve
Notes
- Note 1 The goal here is for this salad to have a colourful assortment of tomatoes. If you can't get the exact type that is listed in the recipe, that is fine. Gather an assortment of colours, shapes and sizes to the equivalent amount.
- Note 2 Burrata can be hard to find at the local grocery store! If you hunt for it and cannot find it, use mozzarella or bocconcini instead.
