How to make Granola in the Slow Cooker?
To make granola in your crockpot, you start by adding the coconut oil, followed by all of the oats, nuts and fruits, the cinnamon and stir to combine.
The granola gets cooked for 2 hours on low, followed by another 30 mins - hour where you stir it a couple of times.

Once the granola is cooked, we can serve it with yoghurt, milk, fruit, anything you can think of!
The ingredients you need for this recipe are all easy to find at the local store. They are set out in the photo below:
As you can see we need:
- sunflower seeds
- dried cranberries
- ground cinnamon
- coconut oil

Homemade Granola in the crockpot
The best way to cook this granola is low and slow.
It is the kindof recipe you want to make on a Sunday, ahead of a busy week where you want to get your meal prep sorted and out of the way.
The granola can be kept in a sealed container, the fridge or even frozen which is great for a big batch of it!
Step by Step instructions
The steps we need to take are shown in the photos below. They are all super easy!
- add coconut oil to the bowl of the Slow Cooker and heat (photo 1)
- transfer oats into the bowl (photo 2)
- followed by the raw almonds (photo 3)
- as well as the sunflower seeds (photo 4)
Next we need to:
- add dates (shown in photo 5)
- pepitas (shown in photo 6)
- dried cranberries (shown in photo 7)
- and stir to combine (shown in photo 8)
One of the best things about Slow Cooker's is that you can cook on low or high. For this recipe cooking on low is recommend so that the granola doesn't burn.
- add the cinnamon to the seeds and nut mix (shown in photo 9)
- stir again to combine(shown in photo 10)
- put the temperature on low and the lid slightly ajar(photo 11)
- cook for 2 hrs without stirring and then for 30 mins - 1 hour stirring a couple of times (photo 12)
Once the granola is cooked, you can remove the lid, turn the heat off and transfer it to a baking tray so it can cool.
This is the fun part as you can play around with storing your homemade granola in jars, or zip lock bags, whichever is easiest for grabbing in the mornings.
Try it once with the listed ingredients and then mix it up a bit and use different nuts, fruits and seeds!

These additional tips are so that you can master Granola in your Crockpot from scratch:
- if your coconut oil is solid, allow it to melt and heat in the SC to begin
- don't place the lid on correctly, twist it to the side a little
- the open style cooking allows a dry environment perfect for toasting oats and seeds
- for the 1st 2 hrs don't stir the granola, in the final 30 mins - 1 hr, stir a few times.
Can I freeze Slow Cooker Granola?
Yes! This is a perfect recipe to freeze.
You may not think it as granola is so crunchy and fresh, but it freezes very well.
This is handy as this recipe makes quite a big batch of granola.
Portion it out and freeze some so that you have breakfasts sorted for a few weeks!

Slow Cooker Granola
- 3 tablespoon coconut oil
- 3 cups oats
- 1 ½ cups almonds
- 2 cups sunflower seeds
- ⅓ cup pepitas
- ½ cup dried cranberries
- 2 cups pitted dates
- 1 tablespoon cinnamon
Slow Cooker Granola
- Add coconut oil to Slow Cooker bowl, turn to high and let melt (or heat). Note 1
- Add oats, almonds, sunflower seeds, pepitas, dates, cranberries to the coconut oil and use a non scratch spoon to stir to combine Note 2
- Sprinkle cinnamon powder into bowl and stir again to combine
- Set the temperature to low and place the lid not fully flush but skewed to the side so that air still comes into the bowl Note 3
- Cook for 2 hours
- After 2 hours, remove lid, turn temperature off and stir to combine
- Serve with milk or yoghurt and top with fruits and or honey as desired.
- Note 1 If your coconut oil is melted already, add it to the Slow Cooker bowl and still heat the oil for a couple of mins before adding the rest of the ingredients. My oil is often solid, so I add it to the bowl, turn the temperature to high, let it melt/heat and then start adding the ingredients. This allows the full surface of the bowl to have a thin layer of coconut oil so the flavour of the granola is consistent as well (as opposed to adding it all at the same time and having the oil only be mixed into parts of the granola mix).
- Note 2 When Slow Cooking I use with a wooden spoon or a silicon spoon to avoid scratching the surfaces of the Slow Cooker bowl.
- Note 3 If the lid is fully 'on' the Slow Cooker properly then the environment will be too moist to get the dryness we need when cooking granola. Skewing the lid allows us to get this dryness as it is not enclosed to the same degree.
