Easy baking recipes for beginners are a fun way of spending time in the kitchen.

How to Make Orange Cacao Bliss Balls

These orange cacao bliss balls are exactly that. I worked with two primary ingredients that I love and I know work well together.

We all love a piece of orange chocolate every now and then, don't we!  I usually like the dark chocolate variety with bits of orange.

This recipe takes inspiration from that chocolate to make a healthy nutritious treat that you can eat on the go.

Once you have whipped these up, they can easily go in the fridge in a container labelled 'eat me!!'

There were a few options that I worked through in coming up with this recipe. Initially I thought I would be able to buy orange pieces. However, whilst I did locate a bag of citrus (orange and lemon) pieces, it was filled with sugar and my teeth shuddered at the thought!

When I am off to yoga in the evening, I find having a snack a good way to keep me full till dinner time.

These bliss balls are a perfect snack.

They are rich and chewy and the flavours zing around in your mouth truly making you feel 'bliss!'.

How to serve Orange Cacao Bliss Balls

I like to use an ingredient on the outside of the balls for texture.

This time I used some of the cacao powder to roll the balls in so they have a nice chocolate like coating (Ermagawd yummmmmmmm right!!).

Roll, roll, roll, your balls!! Trust me, IT WORKS!!! Use a spoon to portion out the batter, then roll into small balls.

Again, don't be too worried about the name. Energy balls, protein balls, bliss balls.

They are all names for the same thing. I use dates in my bliss balls as they are easy, healthy and convenient!

The perks of vegan bliss balls

These bliss balls will keep for a while (at least 2 weeks in the fridge) without 'expiring'. That is one of the best things about them. They are the snack that just keeps giving!!

    Ingredients

    Orange Cacao Bliss Balls

    • 13 medjool dates
    • 1 cup almonds
    • ¼ cup coconut oil
    • ⅓ cup tahini
    • 1 tbsp cacao powder
    • ½ orange (juiced)

    Instructions

    • Preheat your oven to 180 degrees F 82.2 degrees C. Line a baking tray with paper

    • Remove pit from dates and discard
    • Add almonds to a food processor and blitz to combine
    • Add dates and blitz again
    • Cut orange in ½. Juice one half and slice the juiced half and rind into pieces (use orange juice for other purpose)
    • Add dates and blitz again
    • Pour in ½ coconut oil and blitz
    • Add tahini and blitz
    • Add cacao and blitz
    • Add remaining coconut oil and blitz
    • Roll into balls
    • Coat with cacao powder (optional)

    Notes

    • It is a really good idea to watch my recipe video before cooking these as the technique I have used for the orange/juice is important. We actually use ½ of a juiced orange and the rind.....not the orange juice from the orange.
    • Also please note that I use ½ of the coconut oil at one stage in the recipe and the remaining ½ at another stage, this is to ensure a consistent mix of the balls without being too wet or dry.
    • The balls would be too moist if you used the juice as well as remaining oil and rind. Keep the freshly squeezed juice in the fridge for breakfast!!
    • These bliss balls can be frozen for up to a month
    • The energy balls will keep in the fridge for 2-3 weeks in an air tight container
