🥗 Ingredients
The photo below is to show you what you need to make the recipe. Please refer to the printable recipe card for exact measurements.
As you can see, the main ingredients we need are:
- Oreo biscuits (Oreo cookies) - these are always easy to find in the biscuit/cookie aisle at the supermarket. I am using the chocolate version with the white cream centre.
- Cream cheese - you can use the block or spreadable version of this. Grab it out of the fridge to begin so it slightly softens prior to using it.
🍜 Decorating Ideas
- Milk, Dark and White chocolate - this is where the decorating begins! Grab a selection of each to add variety to your Oreo balls with a combination of melted chocolate coating.
- Sprinkles - Christmas theme of course! Let your hair down and use the stars, balls and symbols that sing of festive songs and merry moments!
Tasty Tip: one of the best things about this recipe is that you don't have to decorate your balls exactly the same way I have. You can get creative and have fun decorating in the Christmas spirit that makes your heart sing!
🍳 Instructions
Here are the step by step instructions to make the Christmas Oreo Balls. You will need a food processor or zip lock bag to begin as we are going to crush our Oreo cookies.
- Add Oreo biscuits to the food processor (Photo 1)
- Blitz the biscuits till they are a fine crumb (Photo 2)
- Add cream cheese to the biscuit crumbs (Photo 3)
- Blitz for 15 to 20 seconds to combine (Photo 4)
Tasty Tip: I find it easiest to cut the cream cheese into 1 to 3 pieces and then add it into the food processor so that I don't over balance it. If it is slightly soft to begin with (as it has been out of the fridge) this helps also and it will only take seconds to mix in with the biscuit mix.
👩🍳 How to Make Christmas Oreo Balls
You need only 2 ingredients to make the oreo balls which are cream cheese and oreo cookies. These get crushed and combined in the food processor. From there you have the option to decorate the truffles as you please.
- Transfer combined biscuit mix to bowl (Photo 5)
- Use a mini cookie scoop to portion the mix (Photo 6)
- Place individual portions onto lined tray (Photo 7)
- Roll portions into balls then freeze for 30 mins (Photo 8)
You will find it the easiest way to portion and roll your Oreo balls is to do this in 2 steps.
The 1st step is to portion the entire mixture out and the second step is to roll the mixture into balls.
Here is a photo to expand on the steps involved:
Once the balls are rolled, we freeze them. This is to ensure that they do not break apart when we coat them in the melted chocolate.
You can so what I did in my Oreo Balls recipe without chocolate and only use the sprinkles which is quicker and easier, so give them a go if you are looking for a simple decorating technique.
- Melt chocolate in microwave or slow cooker (photo 11)
- Dip frozen Oreo balls into melted chocolate (photo 12)
- Shake off excess chocolate (photo 13)
- Decorate Oreo balls with Christmas sprinkles (photo 14)
🎄 Christmas Themed Oreo Balls
The most tricky part of decorating the Oreo balls when you are using the melted chocolate is being patient enough to shake the excess chocolate off the balls.
If you don't do this step, then your balls with have a footprint of chocolate coming out of them (which you can cut off) but it is extra work!
So the best thing to do is work quickly and patiently shaking the chocolate off and then resting the decorated Oreo ball onto the baking tray.
You can use the microwave to melt the chocolate for a quick and easy method.
The other alternative and as shown in the photos here is to use the Slow Cooker. The reason why I enjoy this method is that you can work at a slow pace as you are not at risk of the chocolate firming up again quickly after it has been microwaved.
You can see throughout the photos in this post that I use a combination of white, milk and dark chocolate. I love the variety this allows.
You can find a pattern you enjoy and repeat it or you can make each individual ball different from the one before it!
👍 How to Guide
How to Store
Store the balls in a sealed, air tight container in the fridge for up to 7 days.

- Crush some candy canes and add them on the outside of the balls as a decorating idea.
- Use edible glitter or gold foil from the cake decorating section of your local craft store.
- Get really on theme and make Santa, Reindeer or Snow Man versions of the oreo balls.

💡 Tasty Tips
These are my top tips and tricks that I have learnt over the years making these Christmas Oreo balls that will make it easy for you to master them also 👍😉🥰!
- If you don't have a food processor, you can add the biscuits to a zip lock bag, press down to remove the air, seal and use the back of a spoon to break up the biscuits.
- Grab the cream cheese out of the fridge to start with. This will make it a little softer when using it and it will blitz straight into the biscuits smoothly.
- Use the slow cooker to melt the chocolate to allow you to work at a slower pace than microwaving the chocolate.
- Be patient and shake off the excess chocolate from the balls before decorating them.
- Have all of your sprinkles in small bowls ready to go to make the decorating easy!
- Make these Oreo balls in advance and gift to friends and family or colleagues for a special treat.

- Store: transfer back to the fridge and store in an air tight container, consume within 5 - 7 days.
Notes
- Note 1 - Chocolate coating: I like to use a combination of white, milk and dark chocolate to create variety across a batch of these truffles. If you prefer, you can stick to the one colour of chocolate and coat each of your balls in that choice (be it white, milk or dark chocolate).
- Note 2 - Sprinkles: you will need approximately ½ cup of sprinkles for 30 Oreo balls. It is handy to keep in mind that this amount various in terms of how you use them to decorate the Oreo balls, ie full coverage or a little sprinkled on top.
