Beetroot Powder Smoothie is flavour of the day on Sweet Caramel Sunday!
Beetroot Powder, have you heard of it? It is a vibrant colour and often with other smoothie powders such as green 'power' smoothie mixes.
I have been seeing Beetroot Powder at the shops for a while now. I really wanted to try it and make a delicious smoothie with it, but I was apprehensive, as I have tried a green powder in my smoothies in the past and over did it. It got me thinking if I add this Beetroot Powder to my smoothies, is it going to taste like crap and then I will have the bag in the pantry for the next year, before I do a clean out and chuck it. But as I had been feeling like I wanted more energy in the mornings, even after a good night's rest, I thought well, why give it a go. I can assure you, I am now glad I did and if you give this recipe a whirl, I am sure you will too.
The key for me was to create a drink with a flavour combo that I wasn't going to be turning my nose up at and grossed out by the taste of too many vegetable flavours. So I racked my brain until I found a combo that worked.
Meal prepping through the week...
Best thing about this recipe is THE MEAL PREP done ahead of time. I have included a pic of that to show you. I have an early start each morning and often don't find opening a full bag of frozen fruit and portioning it out the most easiest or stress free of tasks, then I get annoyed when I accidentally drop a few pieces on the floor which I then have to pick up and bin, all the while thinking 'oh no, I ruined that lovely fruit'. So I used my technique that I rely on for portioning out other meals and it worked a treat. All you do is get a tall cup that has a reasonably wide (think bigger than a tennis ball) opening to it. Put your open zip lock bag into the cup and open it out folding the zip part around the outside of the cup.
Then you go through and add your fruit or veg portions, zip the bag up and pop them all in the freezer.
So then on those mornings when you are like 'quick, go, go' to get out the door, you can grab a prepared bag of the fruit, pop it into your blender jug, top it up to the fill line with coconut water and then put the lid on and out the door you go. I do this as I have a spare old blender at work, but obviously you could make it before you go then drink it on the way etc, I will leave that decision in your capable hands depending on your morning routine.
So, the Beetroot Power, I add when I get to work (just a teaspoon), then blend and wowieee, it is packed with flavour and I kid you not, I feel a sense of vitality sweep through me within the hour after consuming. I would definitely advise exercising caution in how much powder to add as it goes from delicious to 'ugh' too much, too, too much powder if you don't moderate your serve.
I have been at yoga this morning, I find it is always THE BEST way to start the weekend if I can. It is a lovely bunch of people that go to the studio and you walk away feeling like you have ticked all the right boxes for the day. So good in fact, you want to drive hop and whip up one of these bad boys to get your morning off to a powering start.
📖 Recipe
Beetroot Powder Smoothie
Ingredients
- 1 banana sliced
- ⅓ cup pineapple pieces drained, no juice
- ⅓ cup frozen raspberries
- 1 teaspoon beetroot powder
- 300 ml coconut water
- 1 teaspoon black chia seeds
Instructions
- Combine banana, pineapple, raspberries and beetroot powder in large blender cup
- Cover with coconut water, then blend to combine
- Can top with chia seeds if desired
Notes
- Too much Beetroot Powder, won't taste awesome. So add just a teaspoon to begin with, taste it and if you want more, add it then.
- If you want a sweeter smoothie, add more frozen raspberries.
- You can even use ½ teaspoon of the powder so that you can see if you like the taste before adding the full teaspoon.

So, usually at this point in my posts, I give you some other recipe suggestions that you might like to try. As we are on the smoothie topic, the ones I have chosen today are all other refreshing beverages (even an alcoholic one too as you know, got to quench your thirst even now and then hey!!).
So you will find all of the posts I have done so far for other drinks here.
My favourites are the Blueberry Smoothie and that recipe is here or the Pink Berry Smoothie and that recipe can be found here.
Hope you enjoy this recipe and have a relaxing and chill weekend.

What brand of coconut water do you use? I tried one and it tasted horrible. What about a different juice or unsweetened Almond milk?
Adrianne says
Hi Mary, I use the Woolworths brand of coconut water which is delicious. You could definitely try almond milk sweetened or unsweeted. I think it would be too sweet with another juice. Thanks!

Try Harmless Harvest. It's untreated and slightly sweet.

Thanks Melody, I will check it out.
