Equipment

  • 1 Chopping board
  • 1 Knife
  • 1 Small mixing bowl
  • 1 Spatula
  • 1 Baking tray
  • 1 Baking rack
  • 1 Silicon Baking Mat
  • 2 Oven Mits

Ingredients

  • 1 loaf Turkish bread Note 1
  • 125 grams/1 stick butter room temperature, Note 2
  • 2 tablespoons minced garlic chunky, Note 3
  • 2 teaspoon dried basil
  • 2 teaspoon dried parsley
  • 2 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 2 teaspoon dried chives
  • 2 tablespoon pecorino romano cheese Note 4

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven: preheat the oven to 180°C / 350-375°F / Gas Mark 4-5.
  • Turkish bread loaf: use a bread knife and chopping board to cut the Turkish bread length ways. Then set aside.
  • Butter: add chopped butter to a small mixing bowl and use a spatula to push to and soften into a mound.
  • Garlic and herbs: add minced garlic and dried herbs to the butter and use the spatula to stir and form a paste.
  • Garlic butter onto bread: use the spatula to spread the garlic herb butter mixture across each half of the Turkish bread.
  • Cheese: sprinkle grated Romano cheese over the top of the butter layer and transfer each half to a silicon lined baking tray. Then place in the oven to bake for 15 minutes.
  • Serve and enjoy: use oven mits to remove the baking tray from the oven and rest of a heatproof surface. Use a flat utensil to transfer the Turkish bread back to the chopping board. Use a knife to cut into individual pieces.

Notes

  • Note 1 - Turkish bread: this is a popular loaf of white bread which is long and rectangular. Often sold seeded, sometimes with a combination of white and black sesame seeds, it is great for sandwiches, grilled cheese and as a substitute pizza base.
  • Note 2 - Butter: as we don't add additional salt to the recipe, you could use regular salted butter or if you prefer unsalted butter. You will find it easiest to work with if you chop it into small cubes as shown in the photo above.
  • Note 3 - Garlic: store bought minced garlic is fine to use. The chunkier the texture, the better. You can also purchase cloves of garlic and finely chop them if you prefer.
  • Note 4  - Cheese: this is an optional ingredient, however, a little of it takes the garlic bread to next level yum with a bold flavour that will tick a lot of boxes. Recommend is pecorino romano or parmesan cheese.
