Equipment

  • Grease proof paper
  • Baking tray
  • Food processor
  • Jar

Ingredients

Homemade Almond Butter

  • 500 grams almonds Note 1
  • 1 tsp salt optional

Instructions

  • Preheat your oven to 180°C / 350-375°F / Gas Mark 4-5
  • Line a baking tray with greaseproof paper
  • Spread almonds onto baking tray in 1 flat layer
  • Place in the oven on the middle rack for 10 mins Note 2
  • Use oven mits to remove from the oven and set aside for a couple of mins to cool Note 3
  • Transfer the cooled almonds into the bowl of your food processor (shredder blade) Note 4
  • Blitz the almonds for a couple of mins to start the nut butter blitzing process Note 5
  • After a couple of minutes, remove the lid of the food processor (turn it off at the wall), use a spatula to scrape the sides of the bowl down and repeat.
  • Keep this going every couple of mins. It will take approx 15 - 20 mins to turn the nuts into butter. Note 6
  • The nuts will transform during this time till they turn into almond butter
  • Store in the fridge in a jar or other sealed container
  • Spread on toast and serve with sliced bananas!

Notes

  • Note 1 More nuts is fine! Just make sure to have 1 flat layer when cooking (or use 2 baking trays)
  • Note 2 The nuts will cook quickly, especially as the oven is preheated. Hang about and keep an eye on them as you don't want them to burn (as this can happen SO fast).
  • Note 3 The almonds can still be 'warm' when you transfer them into the food processor, but not 'hot'. Hot ingredients do bad things to our food processor and we want to avoid that!
  • Note 4 This is the main standard blade that comes with all food processors (inserted one), not the one that sits flat on top. Check out the process shots if unsure.
  • Note 5 It will be LOUD at 1st as the nuts are whole and bang around a bit.
  • Note 6 Blitz and scrape, blitz and scrape, it will take longer than you think!
