Equipment

  • 1 Pizza Tray
  • 1 Soup Spoon
  • 2 Oven Mits
  • 1 Serving board
  • 1 Pizza wheel

Ingredients

  • 1 pizza base Note 1
  • 1 cup bolognese sauce room temperature, Note 2
  • ¼ cup parmesan cheese grated, Note 3
  • 1 teaspoon cracked black pepper to garnish, Note 4
  • 2 teaspoon parsley finely chopped, for garnish, Note 5

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven: preheat the oven to 180°C / 350-375°F / Gas Mark 4-5.
  • Pizza base: lay the pizza base flat onto a pizza tray or silicon lined baking tray.
  • Bolognese sauce: use a spoon to dollop the bolognese sauce onto the pizza, then flip the spoon and use the back of it to spread the sauce out into a layer.
  • Cheese: use a hand held grater to grate the parmesan cheese over the top of the bolognese sauce.
  • Oven bake: place the pizza into the oven and cook for 20 mins or until the cheese has melted.
  • Serve and enjoy: use oven mits to remove the pizza from the oven, place on a heat proof surface, rest for a minute, transfer to a serving board, garnish with more cheese, parsley and cracked pepper then use a pizza wheel to slice into pieces.

Notes

  • Note 1 - Pizza base: you have unlimited options when it comes to pizza bases. You can use a store bought pizza base as shown in the photo above. You can use store bought dough that you role into a pizza base yourself. You can use pita bread or naan. My Ciabatta Pizza shows you what using bread as a pizza base looks like and the convenience of it ticks a lot of boxes!!
  • Note 2 - Bolognese sauce: you have a wide variety of options to use here. You can use leftover homemade bolognese sauce or store bought bolognese. The bolognese as seen in the photos throughout this post is leftover Lamb Bolognese.
  • Note 3 - Parmesan cheese: this is so that we get cheese on the pizza but not so much that it takes away from the chunky meat sauce. We use a little prior to cooking as well as some once the pizza is cooked for garnish.
  • Note 4 - Parsley: freshly chopped is best and you can use curly or flat leaf. Much like when eating spag bowl and garnishing prior to serving we want to top the pizza with some subtle enhancements.
  • Note 5 - Cracked black pepper: whilst not a common or typical pizza topping, this helps to season the pizza and you will find that it adds the traditional spaghetti  bolognese dimension of deliciousness!
