Baked Bean Toastie
- 4 slices sourdough bread Note 1
- 200 grams baked beans Note 2
- 40 grams cheese Note 3
- 60 grams spinach leaves
- BBQ sauce Note 4
- 30 grams butter Note 5
Baked Bean Toastie method
Butter 1 side of 4 slices of sourdough bread
Use a bread knife to spread BBQ sauce on the other side of each slice of bread
Place your fry pan on the stove top and turn to a low-medium heat
Place one buttered side of bread onto the pan, followed by the 2nd for the next toastie
On top of the BBQ sauce add your cheese and spinach followed by baked beans
Close the sandwich with the remaining bread slices, butter side up
Cook the toastie until the cheese starts to melt and bind the ingredients. When the 1st side is crispy and golden (sneak a peak) use a flat utensil and flip the sandwich one by one to cook the other side. Each side will take 3-5 mins to toast
Serve with small bowl of BBQ sauce for dipping crusts
- Note 1 The bread I have used for this post is rye sourdough. You can use whatever your favourite bread is!
- Note 2 A standard tin of baked beans is 420 grams. As we don't want our filling spilling out in the fry pan and making our crusts soggy, we need to put a smaller amount of beans onto the sandwich than we would if we were doing an open sandwich.
- Note 3 I use regular or light pre-grated cheese. You only need a little to get the cheesy effect and the same point above applys for this. If we over fill our toastie it will be oozying out, we want a little ooze but not an overwhelming amount.
- Note 4 The BBQ sauce is my favourite ingredient here to tie all of the others together, just a little on one side of each slice of bread is needed.
- Note 5 I use regular spreadable butter for this recipe. I prefer it to spray oil as the bread gets a lot more toasted and crispy. Use your favourite spread and butter one side of each slice.
