Are roasted red peppers the same as bell peppers?
Yes they are.
Red Peppers, Bell Peppers and Capsicum are all names for the same vegetable!
You will find red, green and yellow bell peppers out there that are great to use in receipes like stir fries or tray bakes.
Red peppers are the most commonly roasted peppers as the flavour is unparallelled compared to green or yellow roasted peppers. For some reason, they just taste better!
Why do you have to peel roasted peppers?
One of the steps involved in roasting peppers is to peel their skins off.
This is because the skin has a thin elastic texture whereas the roasted pepper has a soft, moist, melt in your mouth texture!
The skins are easy to remove. You simply place the peppers in a bowl covered with plastic wrap, let cool, then remove wrap and peel the skins off.
How long do homemade roasted peppers last?
The peppers will last 3-4 days in the fridge when stored in a seal air tight container.
Ingredients for the recipe
The only thing you need for this recipe is red bell peppers!
They are shown in the photo below and can be purchased at your local grocery store or fruit shop!
How to make Air Fryer Roasted Peppers
We use a knife, chopping board and Air Fryer to prepare and cook the peppers from start to finish!
- Use a knife to slice the peppers in half (Photo 1)
- Remove the stems and seeds of the peppers (Photo 2)
- Place the peppers cut side up into the Air Fryer basket (Photo 3)
- Flip the peppers to skin side up and cook for 15 mins (Photo 4)
Once the peppers are done, we need to take a couple of steps to allow us to pull the skin off nice and easily.
- Place the roasted peppers into a bowl and cover with cling wrap (Photo 5)
- Once the peppers are cool, remove the cling wrap and pull the skins off (Photo 6)
We all know before and after photos are the best as they illustrate what your food will look like and how things will turn out.

Black bits on roasted peppers is perfectly normal and what you want to aim for in achieving a thoroughly tasty roasted pepper!
What to use roasted red peppers for?
Once you have made your roasted peppers, you will want to find a million ideas on how to use them and enjoy their delicious flavour.
Here are some suggestions:
- add to pizza as a topping
- use them to make a pasta sauce

- turn the Crudite Platter into a roasted vegetable platter!

This is what I have learnt that will help you master the recipe from the 1st time and every following time:
- You don't need a drop of oil for this recipe!
- There is no need to season the capsicum (ie salt or pepper)
- You can pull the basket out by the handle to check how the peppers are cooking along the way
- There are so many sizes and types of Air Fryers that some will cook faster or slower depending on the model.
- The 1st time you make the recipe, check the mushrooms after 5 mins to see how they are cooking!

- 2 red bell peppers
Air Fryer Roasted Red Peppers
- Turn the air fryer on to 180°C/350 F for 20 mins Note 1
- Use a knife and chopping board to slice peppers in half, then remove stems and seeds
- Place bell peppers into the Air Fryer open side up, cook for 10 mins
- Use tongs to flip the peppers to the skin side up and cook for a further 10 mins
- Use tongs to remove peppers from Air Fryer and place in a bowl, cover with cling wrap and allow to cool.
- Once peppers are cool, slide skins off and discard.
- Store in the fridge in an Air Tight container for 3-4 days
- Note 1 I don't need to preheat my Air Fryer. If yours is a model that does, simply add the pre heat cook time and adjust the timer accordingly.
