How to Make Fresh Fig Tart

I was at the grocery store recently and saw some beautiful fresh figs which I knew I needed to bake with ASAP. There is something magical about these fruits I think. Whether it be the shape, the pretty colours or the taste, they are delicious! Cooking with them is both enjoyable and rewarding as not all of the people you are cooking for will have tried them and if you bring them out for dessert at a dinner party, you will have a real talking point!

The crispy, flaky puff pastry, spread with cream and sweet bites of the figs with the sticky marmalade syrup are a delight for your tastebuds!

It is so exciting to bring you this recipe today as not only will you love it, it is a quick and easy dessert that you can bring to your table!

Preparing Figs to make a Puff Pastry Tart

They are so many paths to take when using figs, but I chose this Fig Tart as it is both simple and delicious.

There is no hard work to do when preparing the figs, as you only need to cut them into thin slices and the work is done!

This is a perfect dinner party dessert, it is light, has great texture and will delight your guests!

How to prepare Puff Pastry to make a Fig Tart?

If you follow Sweet Caramel Sunday, you will see that I have many desserts using puff pastry. There are a number of reasons for this, the simplest one being, it is easy!

You can have it in the freezer all year round and whip it out to make a decadent dessert in no time at all.

Brushing the pastry with a lightly whisked egg before putting it in the oven, will result in crispy, flaky golden base for your dessert!

If you are cooking for a large number of guests, you can simply preparing more pastry and additional tart toppings. The best thing is, you won't even need a pastry or tart tin for this recipe, a flat baking tray will work perfectly!

How to make a Vegan Fig Tart?

If you were to use dairy free cream and a vegan puff pastry (easily available in grocery stores), then you would be able to recreate this Fig Tart as a Vegan Recipe! You wouldn't think it was so easy, but trust me, it absolutely is!

    Ingredients

    Fig Tart

    • 1 sheet puff pastry
    • ½ cup cream
    • 1 tbs icing sugar
    • 1 teaspoon vanilla essence
    • 8 figs
    • ¼ cup marmalade
    • ¼ cup water

    Instructions

    Fig Tart Method

    • Preheat your oven to 180 degrees F 82.2 degrees C. Line a baking tray with baking paper
    • Take your pastry out of the freezer, leave for a few minutes, separate the sheets and lay one sheet flat on the baking paper
    • Run a knife around the edge of the pastry 1-2cm to score it, making the crust
    • Use a fork to prick the pastry all over the inside (not the crust) of the pastry
    • Bake for 10 mins before sliding the pastry onto the oven rack and placing the baking tray on a lower wrack of the oven. Bake for another 5 minutes or until the pastry is a light golden brown.
    • Add cream, icing sugar and vanilla essence to a mixing bowl and beat till soft peaks form in the cream (2-3 mins)
    • Slice figs into thin pieces
    • Remove pastry from oven and allow to cool
    • Make Marmalade Syrup by combining marmalade and water into blender jug and blitz to combine
    • Spread cream over pastry sheet
    • Top with fig slices
    • Drizzle marmalade syrup over fruit and pastry
    • Serve with additional cream and marmalade syrup (optional)

    Notes

    • I love puff pastry tarts, have a look in my dessert recipes section for more inspiration!!
    • You can refrigerate the leftovers of this dish (if there are any) but it tastes better when eaten on the day it is cooked

Dessert from my heart to yours

I know you want to get to making this dessert and not read all about me, haha! It's ok, when there is cooking to do, I totally understand. So I will keep this short and sweet. But in a few words, I am back in Australia after my overseas trip, which was fantastic! Not surprisingly Tonks has stuck ever so closely by my side sine I returned.

Let's get cooking!! Bake on, my friends!

You are welcome Colleen. The marmalade syrup is one of my favourite things to play with in the kitchen! You get sweetness and the flavour of the marmalade but in a much thinner consistency, cheers!
